Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American rock band, Weezer.
Enjoy!
Weezer is an American rock band that was formed in 1992 in Los Angeles, California and currently consists of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals), Brian Bell (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards) and Patrick Wilson (drums).
Weezer was formed on valentine's day of 1992, but were not named yet. On the original tape, a slew of band names were all crammed on the label as a joke on how no one could decide on the name for the band yet.
Some were old names, like Fuzz which was a band formed by Rivers Cuomo in 1991, but there were also other original names like Meathead, Hummingbird, Outhouse, This Niblet and The Big Jones. As for the name Weezer, it appears that "weezer" was Rivers Cuomo's asthmatic childhood nickname.
Weezer released their debut self-titled album (aka "Blue Album") in 1994. The album included the successful singles "Buddy Holly", "Say It Ain't So" and "Undone – The Sweater Song". The album became a 4x platinum success.
Overall and to this day, Weezer has sold approximately 10.2 million albums in the US and more than 35 million albums all over the world.
