Here are a few interesting facts about Travis:
1. The band used to practice in the Horseshoe bar in Glasgow. The landlord let them use the room above the bar for free.
2. All band members met while at art college.
3. The band went through several names before deciding on Travis. Some of the previous names included Glass Onion and Red Telephone Box. They eventually decided on the name Travis after watching an old film, so the name Travis comes from the Harry Dean Stanton character, Travis Henderson, from the film Paris, Texas.
Travis released their debut album, Good Feeling in 1997 where it debuted at No.9 on the UK Albums Chart and achieved a silver certification from the BPI in January 2000. They then went to achieve international success with their second album, The Man Who from 1999 which spent 9 weeks at the top of the UK Albums Charts, totaling 134 weeks in the top 100 of the chart.
Travis have twice been awarded best band at the BRIT Awards and were also awarded the NME Artist of the Year award at their 2000 ceremony. In 2016, the band was honoured at the Scottish Music Awards for their outstanding contribution to music.
