1957: 'Great Balls Of Fire' was released by Sun Records. The single by Jerry Lee Lewis sold over 5 million copies worldwide, and was a No.1 hit in the UK and No.2 in the US.

1960: 'It's Now Or Never' by Elvis Presley became his fifth UK No.1 single. The single stayed at the tops of teh carts for 8 weeks. The song was based on the Italian song, 'O Sole Mio' and gave Elvis Presley his first post-army No.1.
1973: David Bowie scored his second UK No.1 album when 'Pinups' started a five-week run at the top of the charts. The set contained Bowie covering his favourite 60's songs. Bowie's version of 'Sorrow' by The Mersey's made No.3 on the UK singles chart, (first recorded by The McCoys in 1965).
1984: Paul McCartney reached the to No.1 spot on the UK album chart with the soundtrack to the film 'Give My Regards To Broad Street'. It featured the single 'No More Lonely Nights', which reached the No.2 spot in UK.

1990: 'Ice Ice Baby', by Vanilla Ice became the first rap record to top the US singles chart, (and later also a UK No.1 single). The song was initially released as the B-side to the rapper's cover of 'Play That Funky Music', but later became the A-side after many US DJ's started playing the song.

1992: Bon Jovi released 'Keep The Faith', which was their fifth studio album, and spent a total of 49 weeks on the US chart. This successful album produced three Top 40 hits: 'Keep The Faith', 'Bed of Roses' and 'In These Arms'.
