1963: The Beatles released 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' in the UK. For the first time ever in the UK, advanced orders passed the million mark before the single was even released.

1965: John A. Love, the Governor of Colorado, declared a Rolling Stones day throughout the State as the band appeared at The Denver Coliseum in Colorado during a North American tour.

1976: Lancaster local council cancelled the Sex Pistols concert at Lancaster Poly, England. The statement for this cancellation, and I quote was: 'We don't want that sort of filth (The Sex Pistols) in the town limits.'

 

1980: ABBA had their 9th and last UK No.1 single with 'Super Trouper', the band's 25th Top 40 hit in the UK. The name of the song "Super Trouper" referred to the gigantic spotlights used in stadium concerts.

1997: The song 'Perfect Day' was performed by various artists including: Elton John, Bono, Tom Jones & David Bowie, and it reached the No.1 spot on the UK singles chart. Originally, the song was written and recorded in 1973 by Lou Reed, the new collaboration of 29 major musicians and artists was a fund raiser for the BBC Children In Need charity.

 

2001: George Harrison, Beatles guitarist, died in Los Angeles of lung cancer at the age of 58. Following the breakup of The Beatles, George Harrison had a successful career as a solo artist and later as part of the Traveling Wilburys. He was the youngest member of The Beatles, (aged 16 when he joined), and his compositions include: ‘Taxman’, ‘Here Comes the Sun’, ‘Something’, and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. He released the acclaimed triple album, 'All Things Must Pass', in 1970, which featured the worldwide No.1 hit 'My Sweet Lord.'
