1966: Filming of The Monkees first TV series began. Their first single, 'Last Train to Clarksville' was released in August 1966, just weeks before the TV broadcast debut. In conjunction with the first broadcast of the television show on September 12, 1966 on the NBC television network, NBC and Columbia had a major hit on their hands.

1975: During a press conference that was held at the 5th Avenue Hotel in New York City in order to announce The Rolling Stones forthcoming American tour, the band members themselves came down the street and played live music from the back of a flat-bed truck. Charlie Watts (drummer) was the one that thought of this idea.

1976: The Who entered the Guinness book of Records as the loudest performance of a rock band at 120 decibels. This was achieved when the band played at Charlton Athletic Football ground.

1980: Lipps Inc. topped the US singles chart with 'Funkytown'. The disco hit also topped the charts in Austria, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Australia. In the UK, it "only" reached the No. 2 spot on the chart.
1986: Peter Gabriel scored his second solo UK No.1 album with the brilliant album 'So'. It features the successful single 'Sledgehammer' as well as the song 'Don't Give Up', a lovely duet with Kate Bush.

1997: Eternal started a three-week run at the top of the UK singles chart with 'I Wanna Be The Only One', the band's first and only UK No.1.
2004: US guitarist Robert Quine was found dead in his New York City home, due to a heroin overdose. He was 61 years old. Quine worked with Richard Hell And The Voidoids, (1977 album 'Blank Generation' features the track 'Love Comes In Spurts') as well as with Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Marianne Faithfull, Lloyd Cole, They Might Be Giants, and Tom Waits.
