1962: Elvis Presley topped the UK singles chart with the song 'Good Luck Charm', his 11th UK No.1 single. It completed his second hat-trick of chart topping singles in the UK.
1963: The Beatles recorded the first of their very own BBC radio program, "Pop Go the Beatles". The theme song for the program was a version of "Pop Goes the Weasel". The guests for the first show were the Lorne Gibson Trio.

1968: The Rolling Stones released the single 'Jumpin Jack Flash' in the UK. The song gave the band their seventh UK No.1 hit. Keith Richards later said that he and Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics to the song while staying at Keith Richards' country house, where the two were awoken one morning by the sound of gardener Jack Dyer as he wad walking past the window. When Jagger asked Richards about the source of the noise, Richards replied: "Oh, that's Jack – that's jumpin' Jack."

1969: Album Nashville Skyline by Bob Dylan, peaked at the No.3 spot in the US chart. Dylan's ninth album also scored him his fourth UK No.1. The album features the song 'Lay Lady Lay', which became one of Bob Dylan's biggest pop hits. It reached the No.7 spot in the US, which was his biggest single in three years.

1974: David Bowie released Diamond Dogs, his eighth studio album. The cover of the album features David Bowie as a striking half-man, half-dog grotesque painted by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert. It was considered controversial at the time, as the full painting clearly showed the hybrid's genitalia.
1975: Earth Wind and Fire topped the US singles chart with the song 'Shining Star', the band's first and only US No.1 hit.

1991: Gene Clark, the founding member of The Byrds died of a heart attack at the age of 49. He wrote the hits 'Eight Miles High' and 'I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better'.
1997: Hanson started a three week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'MMMBop', their first US No.1 and also a No.1 hit in the UK. The song was a huge success, especially for a debut single. It topped the charts in 27 countries worldwide including Germany, USA, UK, Mexico and Australia.

2010: Paul Gray, the bassist of US metal band Slipknot, was found dead in a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 38 years old. His body was found by an employee at the hotel in a suburb of the city. Police said foul play was not suspected, but that there would be an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The nine band members of Slipknot wore masks in public and referred to each other by numbers. Paul Gray was number two. On June 21, 2010, the results of the autopsy stated that Gray had died due to an overdose of morphine, and had also shown signs of "significant heart disease."
