1973: Stevie Wonder topped the US singles chart with 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life'. The song was Wonder's third US No.1 hit and it also won Wonder a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. It was the second single released from the album 'Talking Book'.

1973: Paul Simon released the single 'Kodachrome' which is named after the Kodak 35mm film Kodachrome. The single became a No.2 hit in the US. However, it wasn't released as a single in UK, because the BBC refused to play the trademarked name.

1978: Dire Straits released their first major label single 'Sultans Of Swing'. It was recorded on a very small budget of £120. The song was first recorded as a demo at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977, but quickly acquired a following after it began playing at Radio London over and over again.

1979: ABBA started a four week run at the top of the UK album chart with 'Voulez-Vous', the band's fourth No.1 album.

1979: Supertramp topped the US album chart with 'Breakfast In America', the band's only US No.1. It features three US Billboard hit singles: 'Goodbye Stranger', 'The Logical Song' and 'Take the Long Way Home'.

1984: Bob Marley and the Wailers started a 12-week run at the top of the UK album chart with the compilation album 'Legend'. The album was released to commemorate the third anniversary of Marley's death.

 

1990: Madonna started a three week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'Vogue'. It was originally planned as a B-side, but became Madonna's eighth US No.1 hit and seventh UK No.1 hit.
