1964: The Beatles made their debut on the UK TV show 'Top Of The Pops'. They performed with the songs 'Can't Buy Me Love' and ‘You Can’t Do That.’

1967: The Turtles started a three week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'Happy Together'. The song reached the No.12 spot in the UK chart.

1967: Pink Floyd played three shows in 24 hours. They first performed at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor, England, then continued to a gig at the New Yorker Discotheque in Swindon and then finished when they played at the Shoreline Club in Bognor Regis (in the early hours 26 March).

1972: America started a three week run at the top of the US singles chart with their debut single, 'Horse With No Name', which also reached the No.3 spot in the UK chart. The band scored eight other US top 40 hits during the 1970's.

1986: Guns N' Roses signed a world-wide deal with Geffen Records. They had now sold over 100 million albums all over the world, with their debut album from 1987, Appetite For Destruction, selling approximately 28 million copies worldwide.

1989: Madonna topped the UK singles chart with her song, 'Like A Prayer', her sixth UK No.1 and also a No.1 hit in the US. The song was accompanied by a very controversial music video, which was voted in 2005 as the "Most Groundbreaking Music Video of All Time" by MTV viewers.

2015: OK Computer, the seminal album by Radiohead, became one of 25 recordings that was preserved by the US Library of Congress. It was joined by Ben E King's 'Stand By Me' and recordings by Joan Baez, The Doors, The Righteous Brothers and Steve Martin.
