1966: Gene Clark from The Byrds announced that he was leaving the band, because he's afraid of flying.

 

1967: The Beatles began recording a new song by John Lennon called 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' in Abbey Road studios, London. The song was inspired by a drawing that his son, Julian (3 years old then), brought home one day when he returned home from school. The picture, featured a little girl with lots of stars. That girl was his classmate, Lucy O’Donnell, who also lived in Weybridge, and attended the same school as Julian.

1968: The first single by Elton John 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' was released on the Phillips label, yet it failed to enter the charts.

1975: The Eagles topped the US singles chart with 'Best Of My Love', the first of five US No.1's for the group. The highest chart position in the UK for the band was No.8 with their single 'Hotel California' from 1977.

 

1980: Blondie topped the UK singles chart with 'Atomic', the band's third UK No.1 single from their album 'Eat To The Beat'.

1986: Mr. Mister started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'Kyrie', the band's second US No.1, also a No.11 hit in the UK. The band's album 'Welcome To The Real World' also reached the No.1 spot on the US album chart.

 

1991: Frank Smith from Air Supply died of pneumonia in Melbourne, Australia. They had the 1980 UK No.11 single 'All Out Of Love', the 1981 US No.1 single 'The One That You Love' and more.

1994: Nirvana played their final show when they appeared at The Terminal Einz in Munich, Germany. The concert took place in a small capacity venue of 3,000 seats and it was actually a small Airport Hanger. The power went off during the show, so the band played an impromptu acoustic set including a version of 'My Best Friend's Girl' by The Cars.

 

2009: The Prodigy topped the UK album charts with 'Invaders Must Die', their fifth studio album.
