1960: Eddie Cochran topped the UK with the single 'Three Steps To Heaven'. He was killed three months earlier in a car crash while he was touring the UK.

 

1962: The soundtrack to the movie 'West Side Story' topped the UK charts for the first time. It spent a total of 13 weeks at the top of the chart on 7 different occasions.

 

1973: 10cc topped the UK singles chart with the song 'Rubber Bullets', the first of three UK No.1 hits for 10cc (who also had a No.1 as Hotlegs).

1973: George Harrison started a five-week run at the top of the US album chart with 'Living In The Material World', Harrison's fourth studio album and second US No.1.

 

1984: Duran Duran started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with the song 'The Reflex', their first US No.1 hit. The song is taken from Seven and the Ragged Tiger, the band's third studio album.

1990: Elton John had his first UK solo No.1 single with the song 'Sacrifice / Healing Hands' after he achieved more than 50 previous UK hits and 6 chart toppers in the US.

1996: Bryan Adams topped the UK album chart with '18-Till I Die'. On the same day, Metallica topped the US album chart with 'Load', the band's sixth studio album.
