1963: Stevie Wonder, 13-year old at the time entered for the first time to the US singles chart as Little Stevie Wonder with the song 'Fingertips' parts one and two. The song which featured a young Marvin Gaye on drums. It was the first live, non-studio recording that reached the top of the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the US since the comic monologuethe 'It's in the Book' by Johnny Standley in 1952.

1964: The Beatles performed for the first time ever in New Zealand at Wellington Town Hall. The local Chief Constable refused to grant The Beatles a police escort and instead left only two policemen to control more than 5,000 fans.

1968: The Dock Of The Bay, an album by Otis Redding topped the UK chart. The posthumously released album, and his sixth studio album contains a number of singles and B-sides from 1965 and one of his best known songs, the posthumous hit (Sittin' On The Dock) Of The Bay.
1980: Don McLean had his second UK No.1 single with the song 'Crying' by Roy Orbison. The song was a No.2 US hit for Roy Orbison in July of 1961. In 1987, Roy Orbison re-recorded the song as a duet with along with k.d. lang. It was part of the soundtrack for the movie, Hiding Out. They won the Grammy Award for their recording.

1985: Bryan Adams started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with the song 'Heaven', his first No.1 single, which reached the No.35 spot in the UK. The song had been featured in the movie 'Night In Heaven'.

1988: American session guitarist Jesse Ed Davis, died at the age of 43 of a heroin overdose after collapsing in a laundry room in Venice, California. Davis worked with artists and musicians like The Monkees, Conway Twitty, Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen, Steve Miller, Keith Moon, Jackson Browne, Taj Mahal and Harry Nilsson.
2008: Coldplay topped the UK singles chart with the song 'Viva La Vida', the band's first UK No.1 hit. This single also made history, as it had no physical CD-single release in the UK and was available only by internet download. The song won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2009.
