Today: June 11.

 

1960: Drummer Tommy Moore decided to quit The Beatles and return to his job, driving a forklift at Garston bottle works. He was replaced by Norman Chapman for a short period of time, but then Chapman was called into National Service after only three shows. After being without a drummer and even without any gig and a job, the band hired Pete Best on August 12, only one day before they were supposed to go to Hamburg and play a string of club dates.

1966: The Rolling Stones started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with the song 'Paint It, Black', the band's third US No.1 single and also a UK No.1 hit. This was the first No.1 single that featured a sitar on the recording.

1969: The Beatles topped the UK singles chart with the song 'The Ballad Of John and Yoko', the band's 17th UK No.1 hit. The only two members of The Beatles that played on the track were Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

 

1977: KC and the Sunshine Band became only the second band after The Jackson Five that achieved four US No.1's when 'I'm Your Boogie Man' topped the charts.

2000: Aaliyah topped the US singles chart with 'Try Again'. The song became the first "airplay-only" song that reached the top of the US singles chart. On August 25, 2001, she died in an airplane crash.

 

2011: Pink Floyd's album The Dark Side Of The Moon from 1973 re-entered the Billboard Album chart at the No. 47 position and reached the milestone of 1,000 weeks on Billboard's charts. The album was released in 1973 and reached the of the chart on more than one occasion.
