1960: Paul McCartney and Pete Best were arrested after they pinned a condom to a brick wall and then ignited it. The two were told to leave Germany and The Beatles returned home, discouraged.

1965: The Beatles played their last ever show in their hometown of Liverpool. They appeared at The Liverpool Empire during the band's final UK tour. Only 5,100 tickets were available, but there were 40,000 applications for tickets. The Beatles also had the UK No.1 single with 'We Can Work It Out / Day Tripper.'

1968: The Rolling Stones celebrated the release of their new album 'Beggars Banquet' at a party in London. During the party, a food fight containing custard pies started and was the highlight of the party. The original cover for the album was in the form of a plain white invitation, but was later changed.

1973: Paul McCartney released his fifth album since his departure from The Beatles - 'Band On The Run'. This became Paul McCartney's most successful album thanks to two hits from this album: 'Jet' and 'Band on the Run'.

 

1981: Julio Iglesias topped the UK singles chart with 'Begin The Beguine.' Originally, a Cole Porter song from 1935 with Spanish lyrics, it was also Julio's only UK #1 hit.

1987: Singer, drummer and leader of Fat Larry’s Band, Fat Larry James, died of a heart attack at the age of 38. He Scored the 1982 UK No.2 single 'Zoom'. The opening drum break from Down On The Avenue, from the band's first album, 'Feel It' has been sampled by N.W.A. Ice-T, Jungle Brothers and Run-D.M.C.

 

1987: Belinda Carlisle reached the No.1 spot on the US singles chart with 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth', her first solo No.1, and also a No.1 hit in the UK. The promotional video was directed by Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton and features an appearance of Morgan Mason, Carlisle's husband.
