Today: April 13.

 

1965: The Beatles recorded the song 'Help!' during an evening recording session at Abbey Road in London. In an interview with Playboy Magazine in 1980, John Lennon said that the whole Beatles thing was just beyond comprehension, and that he was subconsciously crying out for help.

1971: The Rolling Stones released 'Brown Sugar.' The song is taken from their album Sticky Fingers, which was the first record on their own label, Rolling Stones Records. It introduced the infamous licking-tongue and lips logo.

1973: David Bowie released the album Aladdin Sane. It was his sixth album and the name is actually a pun on "A Lad Insane". Two hit singles included on the album before it was released, 'Drive-In Saturday and 'The Jean Genie.'

 

1974: Elton John topped the US singles chart with 'Bennie And The Jets', his second US No.1. The song reached the No.37 spot in the UK.

1974: Band On The Run by Paul McCartney topped the US album charts. His third US No.1 sold more than 6 million copies all over the world.

1979: Thin Lizzy released Black Rose: A Rock Legend, their ninth studio album. It featured guitarist Gary Moore as well as hits like 'Waiting For An Alibi, 'Do Anything You Want To' and 'Sarah', which was written with Moore about the newborn daughter of Lynott.
