Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American band, The Whispers.
Enjoy!
The Whispers are an American band that was fromed in 1964 in Los Angeles, California and have scored hit records since the late 1960s, but even though they had hit songs during the 1960s and 1970s, they had to wait until 1980 before scoring their first top 20 hit in the U.S. and UK.
That is when their hit song "And The Beat Goes On" reached No.19 on the U.S. chart and No.2 on the UK chart. In this song, the singer keeps a positive outlook as he gets over a broken relationship, reminding himself that there are many more out there.
This is quite a contrast to other soul songs like "Since I Lost My Baby" and "The Tracks of My Heart," where the narrator faces intense pain over the loss of his loved one.
In 2003, The Whispers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in and in 2008 won the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's Pioneer Award. In 2012, they were inducted into The SoulMusic Hall Of Fame at SoulMusic.com and in 2014 were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame.
