Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, The Rolling Stones.
Enjoy!
The Rolling Stones are an English rock that was formed in 1962, in London, England.
The Rolling Stones were among the bands responsible for the British Invasion that became popular in the US in 1964, and identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s.
They have released 30 studio albums, 18 live albums and numerous compilations, and it is estimated that the band had sold over 250 million albums worldwide.
Being one of the greatest rock n' roll bands of all-time, our interesting fact of the day concerns their tours and band members habits. Believe it or not, but, The Rolling Stones don't go on tour without their snooker table. In addition, they asked for video games and even a ping pong table in their USA '97-'98 Rider Tour.
For the band's 2005 "A Bigger Bang" tour, the band members have dropped video games for watching cricket on satellite or cable TV. The latter Rider also reveals what names they give to their dressing rooms backstage.
Mick Jagger's dressing room is known as "Workout," the dressing room of Charlie Watts is "Cotton Club," Ron Wood's dressing room is "Recovery" and the dressing room of Keith Richards is "Camp X-Ray."
Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Rolling Stones at No. 4 on their "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, and in 1989, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, they were also inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

The song "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones is about the political and social unrest at the time. There was war going on in Vietnam, there were race riots, and of course Charles Manson. In the song, Mick Jagger sings of needing shelter from this "storm."
Keith Richards wrote most of the song. He strummed the opening of the song on an electric-acoustic guitar modeled after a Chuck Berry favorite.
Because the band did not release the song as a single, it never charted. But, it is indeed a great song, so go listen to it.

Shortly before The Rolling Stones album Bridges to Babylon was released, they noticed that their song "Anybody Seen My Baby?" sounds a lot like KD Lang's hit song from 1992, "Constant Craving."
With a major publicity push and tour for the album on the way, The Rolling Stones preferred to avoid a lawsuit, so they decided to list KD Lang and her song co-writer, Ben Mink, as composers along with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
This in fact ensured that Lang received royalties, for which she was grateful.
