Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, The Moody Blues.
Enjoy!
The Moody Blues are an English rock band that was formed in 1964 in Birmingham. They became known all over the world due to their songs: "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Go Now" and "Nights in White Satin".
The song "Nights in White Satin" was written by Justin Hayward, who joined the band after Denny Laine left. He got the idea for the song after someone gave him a set of white satin sheets, and wrote it in his bed-sit at Bayswater.
Hayward was 19 years old and the song was a series of random thoughts and was quite autobiographical. It was a very emotional time for him, as he was at the end of one big love affair and the start of another. A lot of that was expressed in the song.
The Moody Blues has been awarded 18 platinum and gold LPs and have sold 70 million albums all over the world. In 2018, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
