Enjoy!
The Kinks are an English rock band that was formed in 1964 in Muswell Hill, North London. Currently, the band consists of Ray Davies, Dave Davies and Mick Avory.
The Kinks are considered to be one of the most important and influential rock bands of the 1960s. The band emerged during the height of British rhythm and blues and Merseybeat, and were part of the British Invasion of the United States until their ban in 1965, which we will talk about right now.
In 1965, The Kinks embarked on their first American tour, which was a complete disaster the included erratic bookings and a great deal of conflict within the band. The Kinks also incurred the wrath of the musician's union, which refused to work with the band. This bad basically kept The Kinks out of America until December, 1969.
This four years ban tanked the band's sales in the U.S. and kept them from performing at Woodstock. With that said, ban or no ban, The Kinks were very successful and had great hits, one of them is the song "You Really Got Me" which became an international hit, topping the UK chart and reaching the top 10 in the US chart.
The Kinks have had five Top 10 singles on the US Billboard chart and nine of the band's albums charted in the Top 40. Back in their home country, the UK, they have had seventeen Top 20 singles and five Top 10 albums.
Four of the band's albums have been certified gold by the RIAA and have sold more than 50 million records all over the world. The Kinks have won various awards and recieved honours like the Ivor Novello Award for "Outstanding Service to British Music".
In 1990, the original four members of the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2005 they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.
