Enjoy!
The Doors were an American rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, in 1965. The band consisted of Jim Morrison (vocals), Ray Manzarek (keyboards), Robby Krieger (guitar) and John Densmore (drums).
The Doors got their first first club gig when a bunch of the band members friends came by in order to cheer them on at an audition at the London Fog club in L.A.
The manager saw and heard this, and thus figured to himself that The Doors were popular, so he gave the band the chance to perform, but as it turned out, only a few people showed up eventually.
In 1966, The Doors signed to Elektra Records and released their debut album. That year, they were also the house band for the Whiskey A-Go-Go club in L.A. but were fired after an explicit performance of their song "The End."
By the end of 1971, it was estimated that the band had sold 4,190,457 albums in the U.S. and 7,750,642 singles. They had three million-selling singles in the U.S. with the songs "Touch Me", "Light My Fire" and "Hello, I Love You".
The music career of The Doors ended in 1973, but their popularity has persisted. According to the RIAA, the band have sold 33 million certified units in the U.S. and more than 100 million records all over the world. This makes them one of the best-selling bands of all time.
They are listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many music magazines, including Rolling Stone magazine, which ranks The Doors at the No. 41 spot the list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The song "Touch Me" by The Doors was written by the band's guitarist Robby Krieger as "Hit Me," which was based on fights he had with his girlfriend.
The original lyric was "C'mon, hit me, I'm not afraid." However, Jim Morrison insisted on changing it to "Touch Me."
At the end of the song, Jim Morrison chants "Stronger than dirt!" a line from an Ajax commercial popular at the time where a knight is seen riding around and destroying dirt. The last four chords of the song were also taken from that commercial.
