The Black Eyed Peas are an American musical group the was formed in Los Angeles in 1995, and consists of rappers will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap. Past band members include Fergie, Kim Hill, Sierra Swan and Dante Santiago.
The Black Eyed Peas started as a hip-hop band that tried to keep their music fun, basing their sound on the records made before the time of Gangsta rap. The band was able to develop a loyal following, but didn't have big commercial success until they decided to add Fergie as a band member to the band. From that moment on, the songs and sound of the band became more radio-friendly.
At the beginning of their musical career, the band also used break dancers to perform in their concerts, but when they started to succeed and hit it big, the dancing and visuals became a lot more elaborate.
The Black Eyed Peas have won 6 Grammy Awards of 15 nominations, and are ranked on the 12th spot on Billboard's list of Decade-End Chart Artist of the Decade. They are also ranked on the 7th spot on the list of the Hot 100 Artists of the Decade.
Overall, the band has sold approximately 76 million records (35 million albums and 41 million singles), which makes the band one of the world's best-selling groups of all time.
