Terence Trent D'Arby (real name: Terence Trent Howard), known now as Sananda Francesco Maitreya, is an American singer and songwriter. He gained fame with his 1987 debut studio album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby. The album included the successful singles "Sign Your Name", "Wishing Well", "If You Let Me Stay" and "Dance Little Sister."
D'Arby's song "Sign Your Name" was his biggest hit. He said that this song came from a dream, where singer Sade asked him to write a song for her. The song was inspired by a dream and also seeing Sade perform at Live Aid in the mid-'80s.
