Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American rock supergroup, Temple of the Dog.
Enjoy!
Temple of the Dog was an American rock supergroup that was formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington.
Temple of the Dog consisted of Chris Cornell (vocals), Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), Mike McCready (lead guitar) and Matt Cameron (drums). Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam appeared from time to time as a guest and provided some lead and backing vocals as well.
They released only one album in April 1991, the self-titled Temple of the Dog, and here are a few facts about this album you may not know:
1. The album is a tribute to Andrew Wood, Mother Love Bone and Malfunkshun lead singer, who died from a drug overdose in 1990.
2. The song "Say Hello 2 Heaven" was originally just going to be a one-off single, but after writing it and hearing how this new group sounded, Chris Cornell decided to create even more music.
3. While recording the song "Hunger Strike," Chris Cornell had some trouble with the vocals. Eddie Vedder, who was waiting for a rehearsal with his band member from Pearl Jam, Mookie Blaylock, took the mic and sang the low parts of the song. At that moment, Chris Cornell knew that he wanted him as part of Temple of the Dog.
