Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, Supertramp.
Enjoy!
Supertramp are an English rock band that was formed in 1969 in London. The music of the band was initially categorised as progressive rock, but later on they started to incorporate a combination of pop, rock and art rock into their music.
Supertramp achieved great popularity in the US, UK, Canada, Europe, South Africa, and Australasia and during mid-1970s, when they became very popular due to radio-friendly songs, they sold more than 60 million albums.
One of the band's most successful songs is "The Logical Song" which reached the No.6 spot on the US chart and the No.7 spot on the UK chart. The song is about how the innocence and wonder of childhood can quickly give way to cynicism and worry, as children are taught to be responsible adults.
The song makes the point that logic can restrict passion and creativity and rails against English schooling. Band member, Roger Hodgson, said that we are taught to function outwardly, but are not taught who we are inwardly and what really the true purpose of life is.
Co-founder of Supertramp, Roger Hodgson left the band in 1983 and since then, Rick Davies has led the band by himself.
