Steve Vai is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and producer. He is ranked the 10th Greatest Guitarist by Guitar World magazine and over the course of his music career has sold more than 15 million records worldwide.
Steve Vai started his music career in 1978 when he was 18 years old. Back then, he was the transcriptionist for Frank Zappa. In 1980-1983 he joined his band and from 1983, Via started his own solo career, realsing 8 solo albums to this day.
He has recorded and toured with many artists and musicians like David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, Alcatrazz and others and has also as recorded with artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Mary J. Blige and Spinal Tap. He was nominated 12 times for a Grammy Award and won 3 times.
Steve Vai designed the first commercially produced seven-string guitar, the Ibanez Universe. It became extremely popular among bands in different genres, including death metal, nu metal and progressive metal.
Now, aside from his very impressive music career, there is another interesting thing you may not know about Steve Vai. Believe it or not, but Steve Vai besides being a very gifted musician, is also a beekeeper.
Vai is an avid beekeeper and his bees produce honey that he sells for charity. The honey is named "Fire Garden Honey", after one of his solo albums, Fire Garden.
