Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American rock band, Steve Miller Band.
Enjoy!
The Steve Miller Band is an American rock band that was formed in San Francisco, California in 1966. They are led by Steve Miller (lead vocals, guitar) and are best known for a string of (mainly) mid-to late-1970s hit singles that are staples of classic rock radio, as well as several earlier psychedelic rock albums.
One of the band's most known and successful songs is "Abracadabra," which lyrics were inspired by Diana Ross and The Supremes, whom Steve Miller had met while performing together on NBC's Hullabaloo in 1966.
One day, Steve Miller was out skiing in Sun Valley, where he saw Diana Ross on the mountain. He started thinking about The Supremes and their performance together in the past, and immediately he wrote the lyrics to the song "Abracadabra" in only 15 minutes.
The song turned up to be a huge hit, spending two weeks at the top of the US chart in September 1982.
