Sports Stars of the '90s: Where Are They Now?March 2, 2014

They were our heroes back in the '90s, we used to watch them compete whether live or on TV, we collected the Fleer Metal cards and we loved them. So, let's see where they are today and what they are doing now…

Michael Johnson

Then: Michael Johnson was one of the best sprinters of the '90s and was very dominant in the 200 and 400-meter runs. He won the gold medal in those races back in 1996 at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta and his 400 meter record continues to hold to this day. After winning the 400 meter run at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he decided to retire and became the oldest Olympian that ever won a track event under 5,000 meters.

Now: Michael Johnson continues to be active in sports and running and opened the Michael Johnson Performance Center, helping young athletes and professional athletes to train and develop.

Karl Malone

Then: One of the most iconic superstars of the '90s and among the greatest NBA All-Stars to have ever played the league. He was a two-time NBA MVP winner, 14-time NBA All-Star and 11-time member of the All-NBA first team. The sad part is that Malone is among many great NBA players who have never won an NBA Championship.

Now: Karl Malone retired from basketball in 2004. From then on he dabbled in politics and basically enjoys the good life and fine cigars.

Doug Flutie

Then: A Boston College legend that turned journeyman quarterback of the NFL, UFL and CFL. Flutie never found long-term success when he played in the NFL but he managed to make his way to 1 Pro Bowl to achieve HOF status with record breaking performances in the CFL.

Now: Flutie works today with The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and that is indeed a blessed work. He is very happy these days and even enjoys playing the drums with his brother Darren in the Flutie Brothers Band.

Detlef Schrempf

Then: Shrempf was a German-American NBA Super-Star that played for the Dallas Mavericks, Seattle SuperSonics and Indiana Pacers. He won the NBA Sixth Man award in 1991-1992 and was a great 3-point shooter.

Now: These days Shrempf is a business development officer at Coldstream Capital which is a wealth management firm.

Picabo Street

Then: Picabo Street was an Olympic skier and won the downhill racing gold medal in the 1998 Winter Games and was also the first American woman that won World Cup titles for downhill in 1994 and 1996.

Now: She retired from pro skiing in 2002 and since then invests her time in charity – The Picabo's Street of Dreams Foundation.

John Stockton

Then: One of the greatest NBA players to have ever played the game, was an amazing point guard, shot trees, made assists and was the undisputed leader of the Utah Jazz. Over the course of his 19-year NBA career, Stockton missed only 22 games! He'll always be remembered as the best assist man to have ever played in the NBA and it's too bad he didn't get the chance to win even one NBA Championship title.

Now: These days, John Stockton continues to work with various NBA teams recently finished an autobiography titled "Assisted" about his own life and his basketball career.

Mookie Blaylock

Then: Blaylock was an NBA Super-Stars and played guard for the Atlanta Hawks. He had over 200 steals in 5 years playing in the NBA league and was twice voted to the NBA All-Defense team during his 13-year career in the NBA.

Now: Mookie Blaylock retired from pro basketball in 2002 and ever since had tackles with the law. He was involved in a deadly car accident, was arrested after he recovered from his injuries and spent time in jail waiting to appear in court for drug charges and DUI charges.

Mike Piazza

Then: Piazza was a 12-time MLB All-Star and was considered to be one of the most solid hitters in the MLB.

Now: Piazza retired from Baseball and 2007 and did a little bit of everything ever since. He currently resides in Miami, Florida and has also released an autobiography titled "Long Shot." He is a devout Christian but also enjoys heavy metal music and rock music very much.

Wayne Gretzky

Then: Considered to be the greatest hockey players of all time. He played 20 seasons in the NHL and anyone who knows even a little about the game of hockey is familiar with the name Wayne Gretzky.

Now: Gretzky retired in 1999 and coached the Phoenix Coyotes and the Canadian's men's national team. He is also the owner of the Wayne Gretzky's restaurant that is located in Toronto, Canada but that's not all, as he also works with the Wayne Gretzky Foundation that helps low-income youth to experience the joy of hockey.
