Sade Adu (real name: Helen Folasade Adu) is a British Nigerian singer and songwriter. Along with Andrew Hale, Paul S. Denman and Stuart Matthewman, she is part of the English band Sade, and together with the band gained popularity all over the world.
Safe began to sing as a backup singer for the band Pride in the early 1980s. Record labels started noticing her and that eventually led her and the other band members to split from the band Pride and form the band Sade.
One of Sade's most known and successful songs is "The Sweetest Taboo", which is actually the height of sexual pleasure, and Sade sings lovingly about a man who gets her there in the song.
The line in the song "There's a quiet storm" is a reference to the quiet storm radio format, which is filled with bab-making music like this song. The quiet storm indicates a sensual sexual experience.
In 2012, Sade was listed at the No.30 spot on the list of "100 Greatest Women In Music" which was done by VH1.
The song "Smooth Operator" by Sade was written by Sade Adu and Ray Saint John. It is about a fashionable man who lives a jet-set lifestyle. This man is very popular with the ladies, and breaks a lot of hearts in his travels.
The lyrics of the song also imply that the women he uses also supply his wealth, yet he does not return their affections.
Despite the cold-hearted lyric of the song, the song "Smooth Operator" is often used to imply a romantic encounter.
