Ram Jam was an American rock band that was formed in 1977 in New York City and are best known for their hit single "Black Betty."
Ram Jam were a short-lived band and their hit single "Black Betty" was their only hit. The song is about a black woman from Alabama who has a "wild" child, and the band took some heat because some civil rights groups felt that the lyrics were disrespectful to black women.
The song features a powerful beat and aggressive tempo, and so it is commonly played at sporting event to pump up the crowd.
