Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American singer and songwriter, Patti Smith.
Enjoy!
Patti Smith is an American singer, songwriter, visual artist and poet. She had a great influence on the the New York City punk rock movement, thanks to her debut album, Horses from 1975.
However, before Patti Smith became a successful singer and songwriter, she used to work in a toy factory, where she was testing toys and fixing boxes. Those times were horrible for her, as the other women in the factory bullied and gang up on her even to the point of sticking her head in a toilet full of piss.
Patti Smith mixed between rock and poetry in her work and one of her most known and successful songs is "Because the Night," which was co-written with Bruce Springsteen. The song reached the No.13 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978.
She is ranked 47th on the list of 100 Greatest Artists published by Rolling Stone magazine. In 2007, Smith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2011 earned the Polar Music Prize.
