Enjoy!
Otis Redding was an American singer, record producer, songwriter, talent scout and arranger.
One of Redding's most famous songs is '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay' and the ending of this song contains what is probably the most famous whistling in music history. What you may not know, is that this whistle at the end of the song was not planned.
When Stax engineer, Ronnie Capone and Steve Cropper heard the whistling, they knew it had to stay in the song. Cropper said that Otis Redding was a little bit baffled at this particular song because of its tempo and the mood, so they got down to the end of it, but Otis didn't have anything to ad-lib with and he just started whistling.
One Steve Cropper and Ronnie Capone heard it, they told Redding to leave the whistle in the song, as it sure is a cool melody to go out with.
Otis Redding has won and received many accolades after his death, among them are the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and being inducted both into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Redding is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues. His singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre, and he has influenced many other soul acts and artists of the 1960s.
Otis Redding died on December 10, 1967 in a plane crash.
