Nick Drake was an English musician, singer and songwriter. He was known for his acoustic guitar-based songs, yet failed to find a wide audience during his lifetime. Still, his work and music achieved wide recognition over the years.
Nick Drake became interested in music at an early age. He started playing piano as a little kid and began recording as a child, using a reel-to-reel tape machine.
In 1964, Nicke Drake formed his first band (The Perfumed Gardeners) with several of his classmates. They played originals as well as covers. By 1970, Nick Drake had lost his passion for music and life itself. Island Records decided to stop paying him and he turned to pot and prescription drugs.
By 1974, Nick Drake was completely out of the public eye. Even though he only released three albums during his music career, Nick Drake has influenced dozens of musicians, like: Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, R.E.M. and Norah Jones.
On 25 November 1974, Nick Drake died from an overdose of approximately 30 amitriptyline pills, a prescribed antidepressant. The cause of death was determined as suicide.
