Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, New Order.
Enjoy!
New Order are an English rock band from Manchester, England, that was formed in 1980 by Bernard Sumner (vocals and guitar), Peter Hook (bass) and Stephen Morris (drums).
New Order were formed after the breakup of their previous post-punk band Joy Division, following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis. They were then joined by Gillian Gilbert (keyboards) later that year.
Their music style of electronic with post-punk and dance music, made the band one of the most critically acclaimed and influential acts of the 1980s.
The interesting fact of today is about one of the band's most popular and successful songs, "Blue Monday." New Order's "Blue Monday" is the best-selling 12-inch single of all time in Britain.
However, as Factory Records weren't members of the British Phonographic Industry Association, it wasn't eligible for an official gold disc. The single wasn't issued as a traditional 7-inch until 1988, which helped boost sales of the 12-inch.

Many heroin users describe a glorious detachment that comes from the drug's high, and that feeling of detachment seems to be described in the song "True Faith" by New Order.
Peter Hook, bass player of New Order denied the drug connection, although Bernard Sumner has stated otherwise, saying in 1999, that "True Faith" is about drug dependency, and that while he himself didn't do heroin, he wrote it from the perspective of a drug user.
