Neil Young has an impressive music career, including a solo career and with various bands like Buffalo Springfield, Crazy Horse, Crosby, Stills & Nash and more.
His guitar work, deeply personal lyrics and signature tenor singing voice transcend his long music career. He also plays piano and harmonica on many albums, which combine generes of rock, folk, country and other musical styles.
Neil Young has earned the nickname ""Godfather of Grunge" thanks to his often distorted electric guitar playing, and that led to his album Mirror Ball from 1995 album with Pearl Jam. Young also directed films and contributed to the soundtracks of the films Philadelphia from 1993 and Dead Man from 1995.
He has received several Juno and Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not once, but twice. Once in 1995 as a solo artist and again in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield. In the year 2000, Rolling Stone magazine named him the 34th greatest rock 'n roll artist.
Now, after you got a bit familiar with Mr. Neil Young, it is time for our interesting fact of the day about him. Neil Young owned a hearse. Yes, a hearse, and not just the one.
When Young formed his first band, The Squires, he obtained a 1948 Buick Roadmaster Funeral car. He named the car Mortimer Hearseburg (or Mort for short) and used it to travel to his shows and gigs.
He then also owned a 1953 Pontiac Hearse, which he nicknamed Mort 2. Richie Furay once saw Young driving his Pontiac car in a Hollywood traffic jam in 1966, and that eventually led to the formation of the band Buffalo Springfield.

Neil Young wrote the song "Heart of Gold" in 1971 after he suffered a back injury that made it difficult for him to play the electric guitar. So, on the Harvest tracks, Young played acoustic.
"Heart of Gold" is not a typical Neil Young song. It finds him mining for a "heart of gold," which depending on your perspective, is either a touching and heartfelt sentiment, or a mawkish platitude.
"Heart of Gold" was by far Neil Young's biggest hit as a solo artist, topping the Hot 100 on March 18, 1972.
