Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, Muse.
Enjoy!
Muse are an English rock band that was formed in 1994 in Teignmouth, Devon. They consist of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals, keyboards) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion).
Muse started the first incarnation of the band at the age of 13. They were known as Gothic Plague, but changed the name to Fixed Penalty and then to Rocket Baby Dolls. By 1997, the band members decided on the name Muse and released their self-titled debut EP on Dangerous Records and then the Muscle Museum EP followed in 1998.
The band members of Muse grew up when Britpop (Blur, Oasis, Suede) was popular, but they were never fans of this kind of music. Instead, they preferred listening to grunge bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Primus. These American influences led to Muse being signed by Maverick Records on Christmas Eve, 1998.
Muse have won many awards, among them two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album (The Resistance and Drones), two Brit Awards, two wins for Best British Live Act, five MTV Europe Music Awards and eight NME Awards. Also, Muse received the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors in 2012.
They have sold more than 20 million albums all over the world, and are listed in the Forbes magazine in the years 2010, 2013 and 2016 for their overall earnings.
