Matisyahu (real name: Matthew Paul Miller) is an American alternative rock musician, reggae singer, rapper and beatboxer.
Matisyahu was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1979. He was raised as a reconstrructionist Jew and attended Hebrew shcool in White Plains, New York.
Matisyahu was a rather rebellious youth, dropping out of high school, following the band Phish on tour and taking drugs. Eventually, he ended out finishing high school.
In 1995, Matisyahu rediscovered his Jewish identity while attending shcool in Israel. At the age of 19, he adopted Orthodox Judaism and took the name "Matisyahu" which translates to "Matthew" in English.
His single "King Without a Crown" from 2005 was a Top 40 hit in the US and since 2004, Matisyahu has released five studio albums, two live albums, two remix CDs and two DVDs featuring live concerts.
