Massive Attack are a British musical group that was formed in Bristol in 1988 and consists of Grant "Daddy G" Marshall, Robert "3D" Del Naja and formerly Andy "Mushroom" Vowles ("Mush").

Blue Lines is Massive Attack's debut album which was released in 1991. It contains the song 'Unfinished Sympathy', which is a very innovative song in the electronic dance (sometimes known as trip-hop) genre.

'Unfinished Sympathy' features a string section and also various orchestral elements and layers of vocals. The rhythm track is based on the bells found in the 1975 song 'Take Me To The Mardi Gras' by Bob James. The song entered the charts and later on was even voted the 63rd greatest song of all time NME poll.

MAssive Attack has won different music awards throughout the band's music career, including a Brit Award for Best British Dance Act, two MTV Europe Music Awards and two Q Awards

The band has released five studio albums and have sold more than 11 million copies all over the world.

After the departure of their vocalist, Shara Nelson, the Massive Attack trio concluded that they could never replace her, so they decided to bring a new diversity to their sound with a selection of rotating guest vocalists.

On the song "Teardrop," Elizabeth Fraser sang vocals, whose lyrics were inspired by the death of her one-time close friend, singer and songwriter Jeff Buckley.

The news that Jeff Buckley had drowned whilst swimming came to Fraser while she was recording this song. She got letters out and was thinking about him. So, the song "Teardrop" is kind of about Buckley.
