Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band that was formed in 2001 in Los Angeles, California, and consists of of lead Adam Levine (vocals), Mickey Madden (bass), James Valentine (lead guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboardist and rhythm guitarist), Matt Flynn (drums), Sam Farrar (multi-instrumentalist) and PJ Morton (keyboards).
Maroon 5 actually began its way in 1994 while members Adam Levine, Mickey Madden and Jesse Carmichael were still in high school. The original name of the band was Kara's Flowers and they used to play garage/grunge music.
The first gig of the band was at Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood in September 1995. They were able to score a deal with as Kara's Flowers with Reprise Records, but it was dropped after only 6 months.
Their album (The Fourth World), came out in 1997, but was a massive failure, as it sold only 5,000 copies and it almost caused the breakup of the band in 1998. In 2001, the band reemerged as Maroon 5 and in 2002, they put out their debut album (Songs About Jane), which became a sleeper hit.
Maroon 5's second album that was released in 2007, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, topped the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single from the album, "Makes Me Wonder", became their first No.1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. The band had more successful songs that topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, among them are "One More Night" and "Girls Like You".
To this day, Maroon 5 has sold over 100 million records worldwide, which makes the band one of the world's best-selling music artists.
