Marc Almond (real name: Peter Mark Sinclair Almond) is an English musician, singer and songwriter. His first began recording and performing as part of the synthpop/new wave duo, Soft Cell along with David Ball. Besides being part of the duo, Almond has had a successful and diverse music career as a solo artist as well.
When Marc Almond was part of Soft Cell, the duo recorded the song "Tainted Love", which was originally recorded in 1964 by Gloria Jones. The version of Marc Almond and Soft Cell that was recorded in 1981 attained worldwide fame and more interesting than that, is that their version was recorded in only a day and a half, and if that's not enough, then know that the single used Marc Almond's very first take!
The cover version of Marc Almond and Soft Cell was so successful, that it sold more than a million copies and topped the UK charts.
Marc Almond was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to arts and culture and to this day had sold more than 30 million records all over the world.
