Madness are an English ska band that was formed in 1976 in Camden Town, north London. Madness are considered to be one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival and today, the band continues performing with six of the seven original band members.
They were originally named The Invaders, but changed the name to Madness in 1979. They decided on the name because that was their favorite song by Jamaican ska and reggae master, Prince Buster.
Madness had great influence on several ska bands of the 1990s, among them Mighty Mighty Bosstones, No Doubt and Reel Big Fish. Madness are one of the most successful UK bands in the 1980s, having 15 singles that reached the UK top ten and spending 214 weeks on the UK singles chart during the decade.
Some of the band's most known and successful songs are: "House of Fun", "It Must Be Love", "Our House" and more. In the year 2000, Madness received the Ivor Novello Award from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors for Outstanding Song Collection.
