Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American singer and songwriter, Lou Reed.
Enjoy!
Lou Reed was an American singer, songwriter and musician. He was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground, and had a solo career that spanned five decades.
The Velvet Underground achieved little commercial success during the time of their music career, but these days, are regarded as one of the most influential bands in rock, underground, and alternative music.
Lou Reed released 20 solo studio albums, and in the 1990s, he participated in a reunion of The Velvet Underground. Reed also made several more albums, including a tribute to Andy Warhol (his mentor) and contributed music to two theatrical interpretations of 19th-century writers, one of which he developed into an album. If that's not enough, Reed also made an album with Metallica.
Our interesting fact of the day comes before all this success and achievement, as we go back all the way to the days Lou Reed was still in school.
Under Lewis "Lou" Reed's 1959 yearbook photo from Freeport high school (Long Island, NY), is the following caption: "Tall, dark-haired, Lou likes basketball, music and naturally, Girls. He was a valuable participant on the track team. He is one of Freeport's great contributors to the recording world. As for the immediate future, Lou has no plans, but will take life as it comes."
As we know now, Lou Reed embraced like and took them the fullest. Unfortunately, Reed died in 2013 of liver disease after a transplant.
