Lenny Kravitz is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. His playing style combines elements of rock, soul, blues, R&B, jazz, funk, hard rock, reggae, psychedelic, folk, ballads and pop.
One famous song by Lenny Kravitz is the song "Are You Gonna Go My Way", which is about Jesus Christ, whom Lenny Kravitz referred to as "The Ultimate Rock Star."
The song is about how God gives choice to man about where to turn. Kravitz said that he was just jamming in the studio with Craig Ross, with whom he wrote the song, and that it was one of those songs that happened in 5 minutes.
After jamming together and feeling there's something there, Kravitz went and wrote the lyrics on a brown paper bag, sang it the next day and that was it.
Lenny Kravitz won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance four years in a row (1999-2002), and thus broke the record for most wins in that category as well as setting the record for most consecutive wins in one category by a male.
He was also nominated for and won other awards, among them the MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, Radio Music Awards, Brit Awards, and Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.
Kravitz is also ranked 93th on VH1's list of 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

When Lenny Kravitz first approached record companies during the early part of his career, they dismissed his music for "not being black enough." This was at a time when everybody in the music industry was telling Kravitz that he couldn't do this sort of thing.
Lenny Kravitz was offered deals if he would change his music, but he refused to compromise. Kravitz never took any deal as he wanted to do his own thing, and was even living in his car at the time.
Kravitz was in his late teens and had no money, yet as tempting as the offer and the deal was, Kravitz remained true to his principles and truth when it came to his music.
