Enjoy!
Lauryn Hill is an American singer, songwriter and rapper, who is also known for being a member of the group Fugees.
She immersed herself in Motown and R&B at a young age when she discovered her mom's old albums in her attic. Hill began singing in Earnest when she was 7 years old when her mom took her to see a production of Annie. After that, Hill drove the entire family crazy when she wouldn't stop singing the show's tunes.
Lauryn Hill met her Fugees bandmates, Wyclef Jean and Prakazrel Michel when she was just 13 years old. As part of the band The Fugees, they released two albums and Hill rose to prominence with her African-American and Caribbean music influences, her rapping and singing.
In 1998, Hill released her only solo studio album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which received critical acclaim. She wrote much of the material of the album while pregnant with her first child, Zion David, with Rohan Marley, who is Bob Marley's son, and she credits the pregnancy for re-igniting her creativity.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill debuted at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200, and has sold approximately eight million copies in the U.S. With this album, Hill won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
Soon afterward, Lauryn Hill dropped out of the public eye, as she was dissatisfied with the music industry and suffered from the pressures of fame.
