Laura Branigan was an American singer, songwriter, and actress and is known by her hit songs "Self Control" and "Gloria".
Laura Branigan's hit song "Self Control" was first released in 1983 by the Italian singer and composer, Raf (Raffaele Riefoli). The song is about a girl whose life is dedicated to her exciting nightlife, where she tends to lose control. Another hit song by Branigan, "Gloria" from 1982, is also based on an Italian pop song. Branigan's version of the song "Gloria" stayed on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for 36 weeks.
Branigan also contributed songs to movie soundtracks and television soundtracks, among them to the soundtrack of the movie Flashdance which won the Grammy Award for its soundtrack and also for the soundtrack of the movie Ghostbusters.
In 1985, Branigan won the Tokyo Music Festival with her song "The Lucky One". Unfortunately, Laura Branigan died in 2004 at her home due to previously-undiagnosed cerebral aneurysm.
