Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American singer and songwriter, Jeff Buckley.
Enjoy!
Jeff Buckley (raised as Scott Moorhead) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter.
Jeff Buckley moved as a child, and only met his biological father, Tim Buckley, once at the age of 8. Jeff decided to take on the Buckley name after his father, which was also a musician that died of a drug overdose in 1975 when he was 28 years old.
Jeff played his father's tribute concert, "Greetings From Tim Buckley" in 1991 in Brooklyn. The concert was Jeff's way of paying last respects to his father, but it had the unintentional effect of kicking off Jeff Buckley's musical career.
Although Jeff wrote hundreds of songs, he had recorded only one studio album at the time of his death. On the evening of May 29, 1997, Buckley decided to go swimming in Wolf River Harbor, which is a slack water channel of the Mississippi River. He was wearing boots and all of his clothing when he entered the water.
Buckley disappeared in the water and only on June 4, two locals spotted his body in the Wolf River and he was brought to land. The autopsy showed no signs of alcohol or drugs in his body, and it was determined that his death was caused due to accidental drowning.
Since Jeff's death, there have been many his material released, including a collection of four-track demos and studio recordings for his unfinished album My Sweetheart the Drunk (which should have been Jeff's second studio album), expansions of Grace, and the Live at Sin-é EP.
Rolling Stone Magazine placed Jeff Buckley in 2004 on the 39th spot on his list of greatest singers of all time.
