Jean-Michel Jarre is a French composer, record producer and performer. Jaree is known to be a pioneer in the electronic, new-age and ambient music genres, and is also known for his organization of outdoor spectacles featuring his music, fireworks and vast laser displays during his shows.
Here are a few interesting facts about Jean-Michel Jarre:
1. He holds the world record for the largest concert ever performed. It took place Moscow, Russia in 1997 and 3,500,000 people saw it.
2. An asteroid has been named in his honour: 4422 Jarre.
3. As a young man, Jaree earned money by selling his paintings, exhibiting some of his works at the Lyon gallery, and also by playing in a band called Mystere IV.
Jean-Michel Jarre's first mainstream success came in 1976 with his album Oxygène. He recorded it in a makeshift studio at his home and it sold an estimated 12 million copies. Oxygène was followed by Jarre's second album, Équinoxe in 1978.
Several of Jarre's albums have been released to coincide with large-scale outdoor shows and events, and he is now well known worldwide as a performer as he is as a musician.
As of 2004, Jarre had sold around 80 million albums all over the world. He was the first Western musician officially invited to perform in the People's Republic of China and as mentioned before, holds the world record for the largest-ever audience at an outdoor event.
