James Blunt (real name: James Hillier Blount) is an English singer, songwriter, record producer and former British Army Officer.
After university, James Blunt joined the life guards, rising to the rank of Cptain and serving with distinction in Kosovo as a troop commander of the peace keeping force. Overall, he was in the army for 4.5 years.
James Blunt recorded his memories of his time in the army in the Back to Bedlam track, "No Bravery."
Blunt's legal surname (as mentioned above) is actually Blount, but he decided to start using the stage name "Blunt" after he left the army in 2002, and that is so he could pursue his musical career. Blunt adopted the moniker in part in order to make it easier for others to spell.
James Blunt rose to fame in 2004 when he released his debut album, Back to Bedlam and the singles "Goodbye My Lover" and "You're Beautiful." The album has sold more than 11 million copies all over the world, and topped the UK Albums Chart, and peaking at No.2 in the US. The album Back to Bedlam was also the best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK.
Blunt has won and received several awards, among them are two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards. He was also nominated five times for the Grammy Award.
To this day, James Blunt Blunt has sold more than 20 million records all over the world.
