Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American singer and songwriter, Iggy Pop.
Enjoy!
Iggy Pop (real name: James Newell Osterberg Jr.), also known as "Godfather of Punk," is an American singer, songwriter, producer , musician and actor. He was the vocalist of proto-punk band The Stooges, (the band reunited in 2003), and is also well known for his outrageous and unpredictable stage antics, which we will talk about right now.
Iggy Pop is famous for bleeding on stage (yes, you read it right, bleeding...). The first time that he bled on stage was actually by accident, when Iggy Pop cut himself when he fell on a drink glass. The crowd went nuts, so Iggy decided to make the blood part of his show.
Iggy Pop was also one of the first to incorporate stage dives and crowd surfing into his concerts and shows.
Many of the songs by Iggy Pop have become well-known, songs like: "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "Search and Destroy" when he was part of The Stooges, as well as his own solo hits: "The Passenger", "Lust for Life" and "Real Wild Child (Wild One)".
In 2010, the Stooges were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
