Daryl Hall and John Oates who are often referred to as Hall & Oates, are an American musical duo. Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist, while John Oates primarily plays the electric guitar, but also provides backing vocals.

They write most of their songs, seperately or together and rose to fame during the late 1970s to mid 1980s. Their music is defined as rock n' roll along with rhythm and blues.

One of their most famous and successful songs which topped the US chart and reached the No.6 spot on the UK chart, is "Maneater" and this song is the subject of our interesting fact of the day.

The song "Maneater" by Hall & Oates is about a very seductive woman with expensive tastes that she uses mean to satisfy. The lyrics to the song use a luxury brand in order to develop the character, as this woman is described as "A she-cat tamed by the purr of a Jaguar," which reffers to the high-end car.

In 2006, singer Nelly Furtado released a song also called "Maneater" that was influenced by this very song by Hall & Oates.

It is estimated that Hall & Oates have sold approximately 40 million records worldwide, scoring 6 number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with the songs: "Maneater", "Private Eyes", "Rich Girl", "Out of Touch", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" and "Kiss on My List".

In 2003, Hall and Oates were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and in 2014, the duo was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Hall and Oates are from Philadelphia, and met while attending Temple University.

The two were in different bands and met when they were both on the bill to play a record hop that was being held by a local radio station. The show was in West Philadelphia, but before it even started, a fight broke out and everyone ran away and scattered.

Daryl Hall and John Oates got out through a service elevator, which is how the two actually met.
