Grace Jones is a Jamaican singer, songwriter, record producer, actress and supermodel. She was born in Jamaica, but moved at the age of 13, along with her siblings, to live with her parents in Syracuse, New York.
Grace Jones began her modelling career in New York state, and then continued to Paris, as she worked for fashion houses like: Kenzo and Yves St. Laurent. Jones had a successful modeling career and appeared on the covers of Vogue and Elle.
In 1977, she signed a record deal with Island Records and started her music career, and had some popular albums which are: Warm Leatherette (1980), Nightclubbing (1981), and Slave to the Rhythm (1985).
Grace Jones also had hits Top 40 UK Singles Chart with the songs "Private Life", "Pull Up to the Bumper", "Slave to the Rhythm" and "I've Seen That Face Before". In 1982, Jones released the music video collection A One Man Show, which was directed by Goude.
Grace Jones has a unique voice and ability and that's our interesting fact of the day. It seems that the vocal range of Jones spands two and a half octaves. That means, that she can switch from contralto to soprano and back without any problem. She can sing relatively high notes, as well as being able to sing in a deep, almost masculine, low singing voice.
Both Lady Gaga and Rihanna have confirmed that they are inspired by Grace Jones.
In 1999, she was ranked on the 82nd spot on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll, and in 2008, she was honored with a Q Idol Award. In December of 2016, Billboard magazine ranked Grace Jones as the 40th most successful dance artist of all time.
