Gorillaz are a British virtual band that was created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The band primarily consists of four animated members, which are: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Noodle (guitar, keyboards, occasional vocals), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion).
Here are a few interesting facts about Gorillaz band members:
1. Damon Albarn is the frontman for British rock group Blur.
2. Jamie Hewlett draws comic books and is most famous for Tank Girl, which was made into a movie starring Ice-T and Iggy Pop.
3. Dan "The Automator" Nakamura specializes in fantasy hip-hop, coming from the underground group Deltron 3030, which put its members into the year 3030, travelling the galaxy.
4. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett were roommates. They got the idea to create this group after each of them ended a long-term relationship.
The debut album of the band, Gorillaz, that came out in 2001, went Triple Platinum in the UK and Double Platinum in Europe. It also earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band.
The band's second studio album, Demon Days, from 2005, went six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US. Gorillaz have also won several other awards, including one Grammy Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award and three MTV Europe Music Awards. They were also nominated for ten Brit Awards, and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards.
